We hosted part two for panellists discussing the HELLSCAPE that is job search! Thank you to Sammy, Louise, and Vanessa for an AMAZING panel discussion.

We have a recording for the session available here!

Beyond Markdown

Early last month, Nonso spoke about how we could go beyond the traditional use cases for markdown when authoring documentation. He spoke about MDX — a superset of markdown that allows us to write JSX components within our markdown content — and how it allows us to enhance the way we author documentation so as to make docs a joy to read, use, and contribute to.

Nonso has given us a link to the presentation & blog article. He also wanted to note that there are interactive quizzes and demos you can do in the article to keep in line with the overall platform.

What is OOP?

During a study-tank session, Ked gave an interactive presentation on Object Oriented Programming! He walked us through the definition of OOP, the 4 pillars of OOP, and “good” and “bad” examples of classes. It was an awesome session, and we definitely learned a lot! Thanks so much, Ked!

You can find the recording along with the slides here

Passkeys: What the Heck and Why?

Neal Fennimore has an amazing article that details what PassKeys are and why they are important. In short, Neal explains that Passkeys are another way for us to enable passwordless login but in a more secure way. A disclaimer to be made is that Passkeys are very different from magic links -- an email that includes some sort of token to authenticate you against a service.

But why should we care?? Passkeys are gaining support in web browsers and products like 1passwords are leading the way with their integrations.

It's a really cool article that delves a bit into cryptography and the inner workings of how passkeys work. Give it a read here.

CSS Nesting

The ability to nest selectors within other selectors is something that has been available in Sass for years now. However, it is now natively supported within CSS!! There are some caveats though as nesting within CSS natively is not the same as nesting within Sass. Kevin powell has an amazing video where he delves into the differences!

The “const” Deception 😮

In this article, Josh Comeau explores the differences between assignment and mutation in JavaScript. Josh uncovers why we are able to edit objects and arrays that are created using "const".

It's a really important concept and it's one of those "gotcha" in JavaScript! The article is a fun read and it's fully interactive as well!
